Ephraim the Syrian
Translated by Mlada Mikulicová and Fr. Vladimír Mikulica.
The present book is the first ever translation of collection of liturgical hymns (madrāshê) of Ephraim the Syrian (306–373) into Czech. Hymns were used in Easter celebrations in Nisibis where they were composed and, presumably, also later in city of Edessa.
Translation from Syriac into Czech was achieved from the critical edition by Edmund Beck (Paschalhymnen, CSCO 248, Scriptores Syri 108, Louvain 1964), provided with an introduction and explanatory notes to each of the thirty six hymns.
