O Vtělení

Author: Athanasios Alexandrijský
Translated from Greek sources by Pavel Milko.

Athanasius of Alexandria († 375), the staunch warrior against Arianism, and called "the Great" or "the father of Orthodoxy", is one of the most distinguished Alexandrian patriarchs. His work is of central importance, particularly in the post-Nicean (325) era, and several of his works remain a permanent component of our theological treasury. The first Czech translation of "On the Incarnation" – the first systematic essay on the Incarnation in the history of Christianity – has been enriched by a multitude of notes and by an extensive introduction to Athanasius' thinking. Though an early work, it makes a splendid introduction to Athanasius' theology, and with its significance and scope consitutes a fundamental introduction to the anthropology, soteriology and christology of the Eastern Church.

Pavel Milko (b. 1971) teaches Orthodox dogmatics and Byzantine philosophy at the Institute of Eastern Christianity of the Hussite Theological Faculty, Charles University in Prague. In the years 1997–2001 he published the journal “Orthodox revue”, from 2002 to 2010 he directed the international journal “Byzantinoslavica. Revue internationale des Etudes Byzantines”, and is currently one of the two editors-in-chief of the annual “Parrésia. Revue pro východní křesťanství”. He is the author of the volumes „Órigenés učitel“ (2008) and “Úvod do byzantské filosofie” (2009), and the translator into Czech of (for instance) the “Mystagogical Catechism of St. Cyril of Jerusalem” (1997) and the “Large Lenten Canon of St. Andrew the Cretan” (2003).
